Best Binoculars Under 200 for Long Distance Coverage

OVERVIEW

With the invention of binoculars, one gets to enjoy nature more precisely. Be it a woodpecker on a tree or a tiger running behind a deer. Everything that is far away from you can be clearly seen using a binocular.

It is a must to invest in a high-end binocular for professional wildlife enthusiasts. Because professional binos have specialized glasses and a higher magnification ratio, and that’s what professionals want.

However, a simple, budget-friendly binocular is more than enough for traveling, hiking, or doing bird watching. They have a decent optical zoom range, and the clarity of the images is also decent. These days even mid-range binoculars come with Fully Multi-coated lenses, which is a huge plus point. Adding to it, brands have also started including twist-up earcups and turn-and-slide rubber eyecups in their design so even glass-wearers can find the best comfort.

With that said, here is a list of my top-rated budget binoculars for under 200 dollars. I have also included a buying guide at the end to help you with your purchase. Have a look!

In a hurry?! Here are my top picks

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A BUDGET BINOCULAR?

1. Is it waterproof?

Most brands provide waterproof binoculars. This safeguards your binocular lens if it rains while adventuring.

While hunting or bird watching, you will be exposed to rains, fog, and similar weather conditions. That will help prevent water, dirt, and debris from getting in!

You might be thinking whether this is a must-have feature, but in my opinion, it is a Yes. Because just by purchasing waterproof and fog proof binos, you can avoid fungal lens attacks from affecting your binocular.

If you do bird watching while rowing on a boat, there are also chances of the binocular slipping off your hand. So, a waterproof facility is a must!

2. Durability & Portability:

If you're traveling or hiking, it isn't recommendable to go for bulkier binoculars. So, choose the one that is small in size and lightweight to use for long hours without any issues. But remember, for professional hunting purposes or wildlife exploration, higher-end models are preferred. Expensive models are more powerful (have good optics) and bigger than these budget models.

Moving onto the construction of the binocular: If the binocular has a rubber covering and a rubberized grip to it, there can be no better blessing.

3. Lens:

This is one of the most critical factors to look upon. We use a binocular to focus subjects from a distance, so the view you get from a binocular must be crystal clear without any unwanted reflections affecting the view.

So, check if the binocular's in-built lens is multi-coated to avoid the problems of unwanted reflections.

Note: Mult-Coatings have become very common with binoculars. So, I recommend a binocular with an FMC (Fully Multi-Coated) coated lens in it.

4. FOV and Magnification:

Next, the lens should give you a good field of view of at least 50mm and an effective magnification of upto 15x (in-real a binocular with 4x to 15x optical zoom will deliver a viewing range of 8x to 10x). Also, check if the zoom-in knob isn't flimsy because you will constantly be turning the knob in and outright!

  • Magnification is nothing but how many times an object is enlarged via the binocular.
  • Field of View: the visible area seen via your binoculars.

If you have been confused about knowing how to choose binoculars for long distances, I hope you've got an answer now.

5. Lens Size:

This is simple to understand. Basically larger the lens size heavier the binocular will be. So, if you're looking for a portable model, choose one that has smaller in-built lenses (20mm to 50mm size).

6. Additional Glass Elements:

To get rid of chromatic aberrations, blurry edges, or purple fringing, it is recommended that the binocular's lens is also made of ED (Extra-Low dispersion) glass elements and other special glasses.

6. Comfort to glass wearers:

People using spectacles, listen carefully! Kindly check if the binocular you want to purchase has turn-and-slide rubber eyecups. This will reduce your eyes from getting strained and allow you to use the binocular for long hours comfortably.

7. Eye-relief:

If the binocular has 20 mm of eye relief, you will not have any types of eye strain for sure. But I doubt if all the budget binos provide this range, so for the worst case, the binocular should at least have an eye relief of 13mm.

8. Other Factors:

  • Objective Lens diameter: It is not the one that is closest to your eyes. It is the lens which offers the closest view that zooms whatever you see.
  • Close Focus: Focus your object like a bird or butterfly and offer you a clear picture of it.
  • Roof or Porro Prisms: while choosing a binocular, you can find two types of prisms.
Porro prisms - it is standard prism until the establishment of roof prism. But, it is quite awkward to carry out.
Roof prisms - It is compact, smaller than Porro prisms and more complicated internally.

HIGH-END BINOS VS LOW-END BINOCULARS, WHICH IS BETTER?

High-End binoculars are highly-powered, meaning their optical quality is top-notch. Such binos have specialized glass elements inside their lens, making them bulky and heavy. If you're a serious wildlife enthusiast, then this binocular is the best.

Note: Higher the magnification, the higher the binocular price will be.

Budget-friendly binos deliver a decent optical quality and have a small-aperture lens only. This means not too much light will enter the lens. But, the field of view and magnification range is appreciable for the price. If you're observing wildlife or doing bird watching, hiking, or any type of travel, these types of binoculars are more than enough.

CONCLUSION

Let me wrap it up quickly for you. A good binocular usually depends on what works best for you. Quality and Price always matters more than the size of the product. Whether you are an explorer or one who loves camping, if you are on a low budget then go for any of these binoculars from my list.

Hope, I’ve figured out the best binoculars under $200 for you. So, why you still waiting? Book your binocular and start viewing the sights very close to you with good image quality while on your adventure journey. Good luck!
